Currently based out of San Diego, H Syme Studio was born from a dream in which landscapes come to life on canvas. Hannah enjoys painting landscapes in a naturalist style. Check out the portfolio section and reach out for a unique piece of your own!

Background

H Syme Studio was created for meditation and an escape from Covid nurse burnout. During the pandemic, the outdoors were a solace. The study of detail in nature reinstated a sense of freedom through fresh air. The study of clouds in the sky, water flowing as earth erodes beautifully beneath, trees and mountains with all their might allowing for the sense of security that this shall pass. Changing perspective with each painting has provided space for growth. A new understanding that humans and earth can have a beautiful relationship sheds new light onto  what we, as society, deem important. Everything is fluid and the relationships in each of my paintings tell a story of balance and perspective. Letting go of expectations  in order to open up to what 'is' rather than what 'could be' allowed for a greater appreciation  of the  smaller details in life.

From New Mexico's mesas and mountains to the east coast 's plentiful marinas and sailboats to the PNW Cascades, Hannah has a unique perspective on life through her family and life experiences. The nomadic spirit carries on in her artwork, with landscapes, seascapes, and everything in between. She studied at the University of New Mexico, gaining a BFA in Media Arts then returned to school at the University of Rochester for a BS in Nursing. She carries her art into her practice and vice versa.  Nursing requires grace,  forgiveness, attention to detail, and patience but also can be incredibly emotional. Painting is no different; this has provided clarity in a blurry world.

Currently in Southern California where she works as an ICU nurse and oil painter, she is transforming her dreams into reality. On her days off, she practices yoga, hikes mountains with her husband, and loses trivia games at the local brewery.
